Statement

What connects this exhibition’s paintings and collages is an engagement with the material of paper. Paper has the unique ability to record the passage of time. The record may be a literal one found as a date on a publication, or it may be a physical one: paper’s fragility makes it vulnerable to moisture, light, the oils of our hands, and ordinary usage.

The collages are composed of paper ephemera: advertising labels, magazine cuttings, postcards, found photographs, and fragments of drawings. The paintings are renderings of paper objects: book covers, collages, and found papers.
